If you’re looking for a place to meet other French speakers or to practice your own French, without having to worry about kids and teenagers, French Social Nights are the place for you. Coucou’s French Social Night series is the perfect way for adults to immerse themselves with French culture, food, media, and most importantly: people. The series features in-person events that take place in laidback settings and foster engagement with other guests; whether you’re a beginner or fluent, each session will provide you with the space to learn something new.
French Social Nights involve one of four types of events: Ciné-Immersion, How French Are You?, Sound Sexy in French, and Wine is Blind.
Ciné-Immersion nights feature a French short film screening in a private theater, followed by a live debate and activities with other guests. Light snacks are provided; alcoholic beverages are not provided but are permitted if guests are interested in bringing their own. Short films are brought to Coucou by its sister organization, 6 PM in Paris, a streaming platform for new French learners.
How French Are You? nights are trivia-themed, involving team competitions intended to test guests’ knowledge of French culture, history, pop culture, scandals, slang, and social norms. Coucou uses a running leaderboard to track team scores throughout the season, at the end of which prizes are awarded to the top teams. Guests are provided with one free drink.
Sound Sexy in French nights follow relaxed lessons in how to perfect your French accent. Teachers train guests to notice the tone, rhythm, and confidence with which words are spoken in conversation, focusing on the more subtle pronunciation of letters, vowels, and liaisons. Guests are invited to record a short video at the start and end of the session in order to hear their progress made by the end of the night.
Wine is Blind nights feature blind wine tasting, including three to four wine pours, discussion among guests, and a reveal at the end of the night. Guests are encouraged to debate their pours with one another, including the rating, the taste, and possible guesses as to which kinds. All levels of wine enjoyers are welcome.
